Wizard of the Week: Harry Potter

February 6th, 2007 by Pete

Last week I wrote about how I was having difficulty coming up with a word that suitably conveyed the opposite of Wally. Phillip Evans suggested the word wizard, now I don’t believe that wallys and wizards are mutually exclusive groups, however I do like the idea of running a Wizard of the Week section so here it is!

I am proud to announce that the first Pete Graham Wizard of the Week is Harry Potter. The 7th and final Harry Potter book will be published on Saturday 21st of July at 1 minute past midnight. The book is titled Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, they’re plenty of rumours about what happens in this book but very few concrete details. J.K Rowling, the series author has stated that she has no plans to write any more novels concerning Harry Potter but may write an encyclopaedia of Wizarding for charity.

J.K.Rowling’s website is a horrible flash based affair. A text only version, if available thankfully. I was amused to find that J.K Rowling herself runs a Wizard of the Month section. It appears that she only picks wizards from her own books which seems a little self absorbed, I however will be picking from the all the wizards in the universe.

A few years ago the Sun wrote what I thought was the best pun I had every seeen. At the time J.K Rowling had just signed an exclusive deal letting Coke put Harry Potter on their bottles, the pun read “J.K Rowling in it!”.

This July also will see the release of the fifth Harry Potter Film, The Order of the Phoenix which I predict will be ace. That’s all for today expect more Wizarding shenanigans next week kids.

Movieamania

January 5th, 2007 by petegraham

Rocky Balboa the 6th Rocky film will be having its UK release on January 19th. I am planning on buying tickets to see it on its release date somewhere in central London. Let me know if you want to come along, there will be a compulsory dress-code this is it:

  • boxing shorts (boxer shorts or short-shorts are acceptable alternatives)
  • boxing gloves (this one is non-negotiable, well I might let people get away with those big hulks hands because they’re funny)
  • boxing boots, high-top trainers are acceptable as Rocky trains with Converse all-stars on in the early films. Also high-top trainers are generally 80s-tastic
  • a robe/dressing gown is also desirable but optional
  • for extra points you may want to wear a super small mans crop-top as sported by rocky and Apollo Creed in Rocky 3

As always I am promoting creativeness so you can ignore the above dress-code if you would like to come as a character from any of the rocky films (Thunderlips, Clubber lang, Tommy Gun, Uncle Paulie’s Robot, Geeky Adrian from the first Rocky, etc)

There will be a prize for the best outfit, if you can’t make it to London then sent me a picture of your getup before 19th January.

I got the Police Academy DVD box-set for Christmas which I’m very much looking forward to watching. Initially I was going to watch all seven films in one sittings but I think that might be too much hilarity for even me. What I have decided to do is first watch the films in their entirety for pure enjoyment. I then plan to watch them again taking notes which I will use to relaunch my police academy website of the late nineties.

My friend Kenny Lee tells me there is an FBI agent called “Mahone” in Prison Break. Surely this can’t be a coincidence.

  • FACT: In the late 90s my police academy website was the most popular police academy website on the Internet
  • FACT: In the late 90s my police academy website was the only police academy website on the Internet.

To finish off 2007 is looking to be a very exciting year for films here are a few that I’m particularly looking forward to in no particular order:

  • Transformers
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Spiderman 3
  • Die Hard 4
  • Rambo 4
  • The Simpsons Film
  • His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass

On the Internet no-one knows you’re a dog

January 4th, 2007 by petegraham

My mother and poo enthusiast Kit Graham sent me an email this lunchtime drawing to my attention to a new craze sweeping America, Dog poo art!

While we’re on the subject of dogs one website that’s definite worth checking out is Dog Judo, it’s an animated comic strip which features two dogs with a keen interest in Judo, Power Date 1 is probably my favourite but all the video’s are worth checking out.

As many of you probably already know I am a very keen follower of canine fashion, I think the Judo outfit is a good look for this season but my favourite piece of dog clothing is still the binary-bone humans are stupid t-shirt available on ThinkGeek.com.

As I know what big fans you all are of my lists here our my top 8 dog films of all time.

  1. look who’s talking now
  2. turner and hooch
  3. k-9
  4. beethoven
  5. homeward bound
  6. scooby doo
  7. lady and the tramp
  8. 1001 Dalmations

Note: Scooby Doo is CGI so only comes in at #6. Look who’s talking now has John Travolta in it so gets to be #1.

Wally Santa Gets the Sack

December 7th, 2006 by petegraham

As it’s now December I decided to pick a particularly festive Wally this Week. A Father Christmas working at Harrods has received the Sack for inappropriate behaviour. It’s reported that the mischievous Father Christmas had made lewd remarks to teenage girls about sitting on his lap among other comments which received numerous complaints. It has not been confirmed if this Santa exposed himself like cross-houses wild-man James “Gibbous” Craig did in 2004. The full story can be read here on Yahoo News Many thanks to Kenny Lee for suggesting this weeks wally and for cooking me a pizza on Tuesday.

This Bad Santa behaviour reminded me of the Festive Comedy “Bad Santa”. Here is a list of my 10 top Christmas Films (lets see if it causes as much controversy as my Top 7 Robots list):

  1. Home Alone 1
  2. Home Alone 2
  3. Die Hard
  4. Scrooged
  5. The Santa Clause (staring Home Improvements Tim Allen)
  6. The Nighmare before Christmas
  7. The Snowman
  8. The Grinch That Stole Christmas
  9. Die Hard 2
  10. Home Alone 3 (for years I refused to watch it due to the lack of Mcauley Culkin, but its actually quite good)

NOTE: Jingle All The Way has not been included as I haven’t seen it. I am ashamed to admit this being a huge Arnie Fan. If anyone would like to lend me a copy then that would make my day!

Also Can anyone confirm if Oliver May look-alike and WWE Superstar the Big Show is in Jingle All The Way as a Giant Santa?

Did anyone see the Christmas Hollyoaks special 2 years ago with Tony Hutchinson as Scrooge, it was absolutely amazing!

Here’s last weeks Wally of the Week.

Spot the difference

December 5th, 2006 by petegraham

Lots of people seem almost as excited about Rocky VI as I am. One young man who is extremely excited is regular reader Tommy O. Young Mr Owen has gone and produced another amazing piece of Artwork this time of Rocky Balboa. I think its so realistic I’ve included it here alongside an actual photo, I’m sure you’ll agree that its difficult to tell the difference.

If you have any pictures that you would like to contribute to this blog then send them to me. Click here to see Tom’s beautiful Wolfin drawing.

New Rocky Film: It’s gonna be ace?

December 4th, 2006 by petegraham

I was watching the trailer for the new Rocky film today, it looks pretty ace! Obviously as a big Stallone fan I love all the Rocky films but Rocky V wasn’t a patch on Rocky IV (FACT: the speech Rocky makes a the end of Rocky IV is the most beautiful speech in the world). I’m hoping this new film will be a return to form for the Itallian Stallion.

Other exciting movie news, it been confirmed that a 4th Rambo film will be release in 2008. The film will be titled Rambo IV: in the Serpent’s Eye more information (although not much more) can be found on IMDB.

Talking about exciting action film sequels it’s also been confirmed that a 3rd Conan film will be made in 2007. Not many details are known about the film currently however it is unlikely that Arnold Schwarzenegger will play Conan as he is busy Governing California and driving Hybrid Hummers. It’s rumoured that big nosed WWE superstar Triple H may play King Conan, other Internet websites are circulating rumours that Pete Graham has been offered the role. At this point in time we cannot confirm or deny these claims.
